At the beginning of the 18th century, a shift in the reflection upon mourning occurred. The previous centuries iconography of winged skulls, the ever present figure of father time, and hourglass was replaced with weeping willow trees and classically inspired architecture in the design of tombstones and mausoleums. This shift also found its way into literature with the advent of the Graveyard School of poetry, whose verses began with the same Puritan themes upon mortality and skulls, and shifted to more reflective verses upon the uncanny and the sublime. This shift paved  the way for the Gothic novel and later for the Romantic school of poetry. This hand built window celebrates this history. The scenes are cut out and arranged to form a 3d effect reminiscent of a theater set. The scenes are then sealed in resin. Size Including Base : Width: 5” Height: 7” Depth: 1.5”
