‘Pandaemonium, or the Devil's Cloister’ was written by the 17th century English author Richard Bovet. Citing witchcraft trials of the period, and also proving a treatise on demonology, evil spirits and apparitions, the book fervently argues the reality of witchcraft on theological grounds. Virulently anti-Catholic, the work is as much an attack on the Papacy and it's supporters, as it is on witchcraft. In the book he equates witchcraft and the papacy as evidence of the Devil's work, a popular opinion at the time among protestant puritan thinking both in England and the American Colonies.
